Orchid Cellar is Maryland's premier meadery and winery located in the Middletown Valley of Frederick County. We specialize in unique meads ranging from dry to sweet, still to sparkling, and fruity to earthy to even spicy. With our variety of meads and limited wine options, there is certainly a beverage for everyone to enjoy!
Our hand-built, log cabin tasting room sits amongst 15 acres with a serene mountain view. Sit and sip mead on our wrap-around deck or explore our property with glass in hand. You can view the vineyard, say hello to our chickens and bees, roast s’mores at our fire pit, or challenge your friends to a game of cornhole. Seating is available inside our tasting room year-round. While inside, be sure to check out the artwork and gifts from local artists and vendors.
Cheese platters and small snacks are available for purchase or feel free to bring your own picnic. Our vineyard lab, Carmen, loves making new friends so feel free to bring your friendly pup. All ages are welcome, but visitors must be 21+ to drink. Cheers!
About Our Winery
At Six Wicket Vineyards, our mission is to grow superior quality vinifera grapes. Once harvested, our grapes will be sold to the top tier Maryland wineries and used in the production of their award-winning wines. As an environmental steward, we use sustainable practices in the field and continually look to improve on them, minimizing the impact on the land. Although we are a small family owned vineyard, we strive to be the best and have fun along the way.
Edward and Kathy O'Laughlin began their journey into the world of Maryland viticulture in 2014. Although the vineyard is a new endeavor for them, farming has been in Ed’s family for generations. In September of 2016 after an extensive search for just the right property, the O'Laughlin's purchased a 35 acre farm in Myersville, MD that has all of the right ingredients for a top notch all vinifera vineyard - "Six Wicket Vineyards".
The name Six Wicket Vineyards, as well as its logo, are reflective of Ed's love of the game of croquet. Once the vineyard is established it will also include a regulation size croquet court.

Situated on the historic estate of Springfield Manor - guests will enjoy the unparalleled views of mountain woodlands and bucolic pastures. Our outdoor terrace creates the ideal setting to enjoy our fine wines. The meticulously renovated historic bank barn houses a beautiful tasting room. The upstairs of the barn will be utilized for private winery parties and events. Light food and snacks which complement our wines will be available.

Eric Rice and Lori Leitzel Rice craft their farmhouse style cider from certified organic, American heirloom apples on their 35 acre farm in Middletown, Maryland. Organic pears, blueberries, black currants and other fruits make tasty additions to Willow Oaks' ciders. Fabulous fruit, unique terroir and small batch barrel fermentation let the flavors and aroma of the fruit shine through to a crisp, dry finish.

The Willow Oaks barn has sweeping views, comfortable spaces to relax with friends, a farmstand with organic produce, beef and preserves and an extensive gallery of fine art, pottery and jewelry. Bring a picnic, grab a board game off the shelf and settle in.
