Like many Italian immigrants, Bertero Basignani’s grandparents, Annunziata and Scandiano Bechini, brought the practice of home winemaking with them from Italy. Following in their footsteps, Bert aspired to carry on the family tradition. In 1974 he, and wife Lynne, planted 60 vines. In 1986, after winning many amateur winemaking judgings, and at the urging of friends who had sampled and approved of their wine, Bert and Lynne decided to take the plunge and start Basignani Winery.

Maryland's first winery, Boordy Vineyards is nestled in the Long Green valley of northeastern Baltimore County. Wine tastings are held in Boordy’s historic 19th-century fieldstone barn, and tours of the vineyards, barrel room and state-of-the-art winemaking facility are offered daily. Special events are held throughout the year, including Saturday evening concerts and Thursday evening farmers markets throughout the summer, as well as music in the barn during winter months. Boordy's bucolic setting and old world charm allow you to forget that you're only a half-hour from downtown Baltimore.

Here at Bull House Winery, built circa 1852 - the original structures are examples of a 19th century vernacular farmstead. Since then, this northern Baltimore County landmark has housed numerous families and countless memories, but sat derelict for a number of years. In 2018, Maryland native Jessica Shearer made her dream a reality when she took over the property with the intention of breathing life back into its empty spaces and building a legacy for her family. Now, this property is once again a place meant to bring people together and to create new memories. To connect to nature and each other on the cusp of the Gunpowder Falls. Grab a bottle of your favorite wine and gather with the people you love on 18 acres of rural Maryland at its sprawling, blooming, blossoming best. Whether you know it or not, you're building something. And so are we.

The Mid-Atlantic Region, specifically our great state of Maryland, can and should be a destination for lovers of world-class wines. Therefore we are focused on selecting the absolute best clones of the grape varieties perfectly suited to our vineyard. For whites these include Albarino, Gruner Veltliner, Viognier and Chardonnay. For reds these include Petit Verdot, Barbera, Cabernet Franc and its descendants – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carminere.
